25 Days of Christmas Decorations - Day #1 - A Small Moravian Style Star Christmas Tree Ornament

A Small Moravian Style Star Christmas Tree Ornament

As an advent gift to the readers of my blog, I will be posting Christmas decorations every day for the next 25 days.  I hope these Christmas decorations will brighten your day and bring joy to your home.

Today's decoration is a simple star which is similar to my Moravian star decoration. This star is only five inches in diameter while my previous Moravian star decoration was twelve inches. Here is the posting of the larger star if you are interested.  https://papercraftetc.blogspot.com/2019/11/a-stem-project-moravian-star-model.html

Here is the PDF file.  I used 65 lb. cardstock.

Here is the SVG.

Cut out the Moravian Star pieces

Fold the three strips of paper to make a rhombicuboctahedron.

Glue them into an octagon. I recommend using tweezers to adhere the octagons together.

Apply glue on the two opposite squares of one octagonal strip.  Slip the other octagonal strip over the glued area to form a structure as shown in the photo above.

Apply glue on the four middle squares as shown above.

Slide the third octagonal strip over the glued areas. This structure is now called a small rhombicuboctahedron.  Please set this aside and wait for the glue to dry adhering each side with the tweezers.

Bend the large square pyramid and apply glue as shown.

Large square pyramid. Repeat for the other five pyramids.

Splay the tabs of all of the pyramids.

Apply glue to the four tabs of each pyramid and adhere to one of the squares on the rhombicuboctahedron

Apply glue to the square on the star and adhere the square.

Repeat for all of the squares.

Make a hanger for the ornament by threading a needle through a point on the star.

  1. Thank you. I have some glitter paper that should be perfect for these.
