A Praxinoscope - A Device Which Makes a Drawn or Photographic Image Move

The Praxinoscope was invented in 1877 by a Frenchman, Charles-Emile Reynaud. The Praxinoscope was the successor of the Zoetrope.  A spinning mirrored cone creates the illusion that still images portrayed in the mirror are moving which gives the impression of animation. This was one of the early methods used for creating and viewing moving images before the advent of modern cinema.

I used 65 lb. cardstock. Here is the PDF.

 Praxinoscope
Glue ten trapezoid shaped mirrors onto the cone shape. The mirrors can be cut with mirrored cardstock.
Apply glue to the tab and adhere the tab to make a cone.
Glue the decagon shaped piece inside the base of the cone.
Turn the cone over and apply glue to the tabs.
Adhere the other decagon shaped piece to the base of the cone.
Bend the axle with the long tabs into a tube.  Apply glue to the tab.
Fold the axle in half as shown.  Apply pressure to the area where the glue was applied.
Make the axle into a tube shape as soon as the glue adheres sufficiently.
Insert the tabs of the axle into the cone base and glue the tabs down.
Glue on the animation platform piece.
Make sure that the hole is centered correctly.
Animation Mirror Assembly
Glue the embellishments onto the box top strip. Line up the embellishments to the edge of the tab. There is a slight overhang at the edge opposite to the tabs. Make one of the Platonic nets for the finial.
Glue the axle into a tube as before.  I used a wooden skewer to make sure that the axle was round in the center as this axle is a smaller tube.
Glue the small tabs of the axle to the base of the box lid as shown above. Make sure that the axle adheres correctly and the tabs lie flat.
Bend the tabs of the lid at a right angle and apply glue to the tabs. Insert the circle into the inside of the lid.
Flip the lid over and apply glue to the tabs as shown.
Attach the axle piece.
Put a drop of glue on the top of the inner axle only.  Make sure that you do not put glue on the outer axle because the outer axle needs to move freely in order to spin around.
Attach the finial to the glue on the inner axle.
Box Base
Glue the box base strip into a circle, bend the tabs at a right angle and apply glue to the inner tabs.
Insert the bottom base and adhere the base.  Flip the base over and apply glue to the tabs.
Adhere the box base. Flip the box over.
Close the box by adding the mirrored animation assembly.
Side view
Insert the animation disk by parting the seam.
Completed Praxinoscope
